How Predictable is The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I love predicting the end of novels. Note: I didn’t say I was good at it. That means that whenever I guess right, the book is truly predictable. 

According to my kindle, I am 70% of the way through 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This means that it is finally prediction time. Can I guess the major plot points of the rest of the novel?

I am marking my predictions here. Stay tuned to my next blog post about the book to see if my predictions were right. 

I am 10/10 confident that there is an unexplored connection between Monique and Evelyn. When I was 30% of the way finished with the book, I became convinced that Evelyn’s daughter, Connor, is Monique’s mom, and that Connor was abandoned to another family because Evelyn couldn’t take care of her. I quickly did the math, however, and realized that this timeline didn’t make sense. If Monique’s mom was Connor, she would have certainly been old enough to remember Evelyn. Whoops!

There has to be another connection between Monique and Evelyn. I am convinced that it lies with Monique’s father and his death, a seemingly underdeveloped and random plot point in the text so far. Call me morbid, but I think that Evelyn accidentally killed Monique. Think about it. Evelyn’s relevance in Hollywood (aka everything she has worked for) is waning. Evelyn will be left utterly devastated and lonely. To cope, Evelyn will either have too much to drink or become reckless, causing an accident on the road. This accident will be the same accident that Monique’s father died in. Confidence level: 7/10. I think this is a pretty good theory. 

Let’s end this on a more wholesome note. To make it up to Monique, Evelyn will be giving up her inheritance to Monique so that Monique can completely quit writing for the Vivant magazine. She will be her own boss, writing about whatever calls to her instead of focusing on what will bring a major success, contrasting her end career with Evelyn’s. She will be able to be a writer and her own boss. Every story has some sort of message, and this one will be to let one’s passions guide their occupation instead of chasing the status behind it. Confidence level: 5/10. There has to be some sort of closure like this to the book, right??
