I had an amazing opportunity to collab with @kindlewithchai to read this book! Check out her instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/kindlewithchai/
SPOILERS AHEAD: The book wasn’t awful. I am a big scaredy-cat, so the thought of reading some sort of thriller/mystery book gives me preemptive goosebumps. This book did not disappoint in giving me such a thrill. Between the strange clues building up to the ultimate revelation to Rachel randomly watching Bel sleep, I was very VERY unsettled.
But here is where my review differs HEAVILY from Kindle With Chai (check out our most recent post for the review!). The ending just sucked. It had amazing potential, but it ended the same way that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban did. Ending a story with an entire speech and a reveal on how everything came to be is so anticlimatic. And then, pushing Charlie off a cliff felt like a sloppy and easy solution for Rachel and the rest of the plotline. Also, I still do not understand how we are supposed to completely believe and trust Rachel, even after the whole explanation. Rachel just gave such creepy vibes that I can’t help but feel she is still untrustworthy.
It's been A WHILE since I read A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, but I remember loving the ending of that book. I would think that this book would be better written considering that it was published after her hit with A Good Girl's Guide to Murder...
