Keeper of the Lost Cities

There is no better way to start this blog off than introducing Keeper of the Lost Cities, my favorite series ever since 5th grade. Messenger has created an intricate world, but to sum it up, this series centers on Sophie Foster, an elf, fighting to fix the problems in the Lost Cities, all while preventing the rebel groups from taking over. Read this series this winter and join me in my countdown for book 10 coming next fall!

Winterhouse

By far, this is my favorite annual winter read. Elizabeth Somer explores the Winterhouse, in a magical hotel, with a mystery ready to be solved. The vibes from this book are so cozy, and with all of the puzzles solved with unexpected turns, I look forward to reading this book every year.

Mustaches for Maddie

Based on a true story, Maddie, a normal 12-year-old girl, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Her optimism and use of humor throughout the story make the book one of the most heartwarming and meaningful books you can ever read as a teen.

Lunar Chronicles

I’m not sure if this classifies as middle grade or not, but overall, the writing of this book always amazes me. Loosely based on our beloved fairy tales, Cinder tries to take down Levana while breaking down the prejudices existing throughout the galaxy. It's extremely hard to pull off a fantasy/sci-fi combo, but Meyer made a perfect blend of both genres, expertly complementing both the fantasy and dystopian worlds while creating funny and diverse characters.

A Night Divided

This historical fiction book based on a family trying to reunite after being separated by the Berlin Wall puts the perspective of a child in such a hard time. This book is much heavier than what I typically read, but it’s always inspiring to remember the children who have to persevere through all sorts of struggles.

Happy Thanksgiving!
