What I Read In A Busy School Week

My school planner works the hardest with all of the writing and planning that  in it as well as my hundred item list of my upcoming school assignments. With the stress of classes, clubs, and extracurriculars, finding time to sit down with a book is nearly impossible. But I’ve made the executive decision to prioritize reading this year and crack open a book to read a few pages at least once every day. So here’s a little look into my reading schedule and how I’ve tried to prioritize reading this last school week!

Monday and Tuesday: 75 Pages

In a classic fashion that is now honestly a character trait, I procrastinated on a lot of my homework to finish up a book. I’ve been reading the famous “Wall of Winnipeg and Me” by Mariana Zapata. It is the most addictive book I've read in a while. The characters have so much growth and development, the slow burn is just perfect, and I found that I kept turning the pages. On Monday, I read about 45 pages, and I would’ve really liked to have read more and finished this one up, but my AP Lang essay was staring at me, waiting to be completed. But on Tuesday, I was determined to reach the last page of this book. I sat down and flew through the last few 30 pages and felt all the emotions. I had to just sit there and process everything, it’s a new comfort book for sure!

Wednesday: 28 Pages

This was kind of a slow reading day for me. All my work seemed to have picked up in the middle of the week, and I just wanted something short to read. Which is why I picked up “Everything My Mother Taught Me” by Alice Hoffman. It was a very short novella, and I not only finished it in one sitting but also was able to add it to my list of completed books! If you’re really busy but an avid reader like me, I would definitely recommend checking out short novellas like this one. It was engaging and so descriptive; it was also devastating as it followed the coming-of-age story of a young girl in Massachusetts. She is the central part of a mystery and a central part of a discussion of how complicated the relationship between you and your loved ones can get.

Thursday and Friday: 60 Pages

The next novel I picked up has been on my TBR for ages. I’ve been meaning to open George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” forever, but sometimes the books that take less brain power to read are more convincing. That being said, the brainpower that was allocated for this book was so worth it. I went into reading it being aware of the complexities and symbolic messages behind the plot, and I had background information and comprehensive knowledge about what each character truly represented. This satirical novella is filled with a whole lot of meaning. On Thursday, I read around 45 pages, and I was surprised at how easy and digestible the language was, but that’s not to say the main message behind the book isn’t heavy and full of analysis. On Friday, I only read about 15 pages, which is pretty low for me, but I was too busy celebrating the end of my week with takeout and a nap!
