Even though it feels like February has been a solid eight years long, there’s a silver lining: more time to scout out your new reads for 2025. There is a plethora of new novels that are extensions of some of the best series and even new pieces from some of our favorite authors. So I’ve gathered a list of some exciting book releases to look out for and add to your TBR.
Katabasis by R.F Kuang
I think out of anyone and everyone in the world, R.F. Kuang is my queen who can do no wrong. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading her previous works, what are you doing? Her stories are perfectly crafted, with detailed prose, thorough plotlines, and nuanced characters. Every single story of hers is so well thought out and carries so much depth, which is why when I saw the Goodreads description of this upcoming read, I almost shed a tear. I’ll quote it directly, “It's about two Ph. D. students who are magicians who travel to hell to rescue the soul of their dead adviser, who died in a freak magic accident.” Dark academia? Fantasy? Everyone, run to the stores on August 26th.
Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
Author Emily Henry strikes again. Clear out your schedule on April 22nd so you can buy and binge-read this new novel. Henry never fails to come up with the perfect recipe for the most perfect romance book, and this one is no exception. This one is about two eager authors competing to write the biography of a mysterious and highly esteemed heiress. Might I mention they are total opposites and are now together on a little island determined to get the rights to the story? This is especially perfect if you’re a fan of Taylor Swift’s song, “The Last Great American Dynasty.”
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
It’s eerie, atmospheric, and topped with yearning. Oh, and it’s written by V.E. Schwab. What’s not to love? I mean, it’s about three vampires from different parts of history over 500 years. It’s a novel described as “genre-defying” and filled with “hunger.” It’s authored by the same person who wrote A Dark Shade of Magic, which went viral online for good reason, her books are known to be unique and magical in a twisted and fascinating way. And this one won’t be an exception. Comes out on June 10th!!
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I literally cannot even contain my excitement typing this out. TJR is one of my favorites and she's written some of the book community’s most beloved novels. “Daisy Jones & The Six,” “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,” and “Malibu Rising” are only a few of her most iconic books. GoodReads describes this one as “An epic new novel set against the backdrop of the 1980s Space Shuttle program about the extraordinary lengths we go to live and love beyond our limits.” So as soon as June 3rd hits, go check out those shelves.
