Is there any better feeling than getting new books? In my humble opinion and very nerdy outlook, I don’t think so. I’ve been overdue for a trip to the bookstore, so obviously when I visited last week I was completely in my element. I browsed through every shelf and read every blurb that caught my eye. Going back and forth on what I should get was honestly very difficult, but I am proud of all that I chose. So here is a little look into all that I got!

1) The Great Alone

I have heard only the best reviews about this book, everyone I know has raved about its storyline and tear-jerking premise. I’m already halfway through the book because the writing just sucks you in. It is classified as historical fiction, but don’t let that worry you. It’s very digestible and entertaining to read. The story follows a young Leni and her family’s move to the middle of nowhere Alaska. It follows her journey to survive in an unknown and dangerous climate, she grows to be a strong young woman while dealing with some of the harshest conditions both in her home and outside of it. I am so excited to finish it!

2) The Seven Year Slip

I am not ashamed to say that I am reading this per BookTok’s reviews. I love a good romance book and from the mystical elements present in this tale, I just know the budding love story within these pages is worth it. The book follows book publisher Clementine and the tale of her aunt’s magical and whimsical apartment. This is where she falls in love…only her soulmate lives 7 years in the past. I'm definitely looking forward to where this story takes me and how these realities are merged in a way that creates a seamlessly put-together love story.

3) A Little Life

Honestly what drew me to pick this book was the intensity and passion behind the reviews. I’ve heard the most amazing things about this book, how the storylines and development of the characters are sure to connect to your heart and bring you to tears. It follows four good friends in the city of New York and the way they navigate life together through several obstacles and setbacks. I am not sure if I’m emotionally prepared for this, I may have to read it with a box of tissues beside me.

4) The House in the Cerulean Sea

From what I’ve seen, this book is a modern fairytale filled with love and whimsy set on a magical island. It follows Linus Baker, a quiet man who is a Case Worker at the Department in Charge of Magical Youth. How interesting does that sound? Especially because of my last pick, I think this heartwarming tale is exactly what I need right now.

5) Letters to a Young Poet

I first came across this book when researching a project for school, and it immediately captured my attention. When I looked it up, this book's reviews stated “ It is a profound exploration of the art of poetry and the human experience. Rilke's letters offer timeless wisdom and guidance for aspiring poets, emphasizing the importance of self-discovery, patience, and a deep appreciation for life's complexities.” I remember being immediately fascinated and drawn to this novel, and once I saw it at the store I knew it was something I had to have. It is a collection of letters written by a poet to a hesitant and aspiring one. I am incredibly excited to see all the goodness that these personal words hold.
