It's that time of the year: You feel the intense work burden from your high school classes and can't stop thinking about the fun of life 5 years ago. Here is a list of books to read to take you back to those days.

11 before 12

Kaylan and Arianna, two teenage girls, make a long list of things to do during the summer to overcome the challenges of growing up while preserving the magic of their friendship. Although the author tries too hard to sound like a sixth-grader, this book is a cute and fun read that takes you back to your middle school days.

Ghost

While I wouldn’t rate the other titles of the series with 5 stars, this is a perfect coming-of-age book that captures how Ghost overcomes the challenges from his past to become the fastest sprinter on his middle school’s elite track team.

Anne of Green Gables

Anne, our relatable and bold female character, challenges societal norms and connects with readers of all ages. Anne presents the world in a wonderful light, and after every read, we can see the kindred spirit in every individual.

Out of My Mind

Draper perfectly captures the middle school environment, all while making the reader empathize with Melody Brooks, our main character diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Read this book with a box of tissues at hand- this heartwarming story WILL make you cry.

The Candymakers

The Candymakers were one of my favorites growing up. There is something so satisfying about how four very different characters work together towards a common goal. And let's not forget how reading this book always made me crave a slice of chocolate pizza!
